ILO | Social protection can play a key role in the fight against child labour

A report published by the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), says that social protection policies can play a key role in the fight against child labour, which currently affects some 215 million children worldwide.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched an amnesty for all domestic workers employers asking them to register their workers by 31 May 2013. COTU Kenya is keeping its pressure high on the Government to get the Convention on Domestic Workers Rights ratified.

Global Network Asia fighting for Decent Work and Health and Safety in the garment sector

The final toll of the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh which housed garment factories making clothes for Primark, Matalan, Mango and other major brands stands at a very sad 1127. Global clothing brands make huge profits off the backs of the workers in factories like these and refuse to join a union-supported workplace safety plan, complaining that it would cost too much and be legally binding.

SOLIDAR | Social Protection for All: An Opportunity for CSOs

On May 15, SOLIDAR and the European Working Group on Decent Work and Social Protection in Development Cooperation, organised a Round Table on “Social Protection for All: the Social Protection Floor and the role of CSOs” in the European Parliament. During his speech, Olivier de Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food stressed that social protection is crucial to the realisation of other human rights such as the right to food.
